Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a highly effective technique to help clients address their trauma history. Studies have consistently demonstrated the effectiveness of EMDR treatment to help reduce and/or eliminate trauma symptoms. This is true for both complex childhood trauma and for single incident traumatic events. EMDR is accepted by the American Psychological Association (APA) as an evidence-based protocol and it also endorsed by the Veterans Administration, Department of Defense and more. This is a specialized therapeutic technique that requires specialized training for clinicians. And many of the counselors at Valley Counseling Center are trained and/or certified in EMDR treatment. Many of our clinicians have taken advanced EMDR courses in addition to the basic training. These include using EMDR for complex trauma, group protocols, rapid stabilization, recent events, attachment trauma, substance use, pain management and more. EMDR has been nicknamed "Therapy at the Speed of Light" because of its impressive results in a shorter timeframe.
